"Trollskogen" is an unusual children's film—without narration or dialogue. It is a film to experience and imagine along with. The story is set around the turn of the century. Ten-year-old Rauni is on a hunting trip with his father. The father shoots a capercaillie. This makes a frightening and fascinating impression on Rauni. Later, he follows a hare but gets lost. Rauni experiences a long and dramatic night alone in the northern Norwegian enchanted forest—until he is rescued by the bear-hunting dog that the villagers use in the search for him.
